How to practice online with a preschooler
Time and length
15 minutes a day is the maximum for a 5-6 year old. Screen time beyond that tires a preschooler. The rest of the time — hands-on games with objects, counting in daily life, logic puzzles.
Format of sessions
An online trainer as a game, not a lesson. The child chooses when to play — forcing screen time backfires. An adult stays nearby the first few sessions, then available on request.
Month-by-month prep plan
6 months before school
Counting to 10, matching numbers to quantities, basic shapes. Activities through object play, flashcards, board games.
3 months before school
Counting to 20, addition and subtraction within 10, comparing numbers. Add online trainers at 15 minutes a day.
1 month before school
Review and reinforce weak spots from the checklist. No new topics — only confidence in what is already covered.
Mistakes to avoid
- Teaching grade 1 content in advance — the child gets bored in class
- Sessions longer than 20 minutes — preschoolers tire and lose interest
- Demanding perfect results — creates anxiety before school starts
- Only screen time, no hands-on play — motor skills and spatial thinking grow through movement
