Reading Numbers With Millions
After thousands, the next place value is millions. Here is how to extend an already familiar principle to even bigger numbers.
A million is a thousand thousands
1,000,000 = 1000×1000. Just as a thousand groups a thousand ones, a million groups a thousand thousands — the same nesting of place values.
💡 Anchor: split the number into groups of three digits from the right, separated by commas: 3,456,789 reads by group as "three million, four hundred fifty-six thousand, seven hundred eighty-nine."
